Maintaining relationships without Meta's platforms

What it is

This is the hardest part of leaving Meta. You can export your photos and posts in an afternoon. What you can't export is your social graph — the relationships, communities, and easy access to the people in your life that Meta's platforms provide. Migration steps

  1. Download your data archive from all Meta platforms
  2. Make your contact list — the real 30-50 people
  3. Collect phone numbers and emails for everyone on the list
  4. Identify your important groups and find alternatives where they exist
  5. Announce your departure with clear forwarding information
  6. Install Signal and invite your most important contacts
  7. Deactivate (not delete) your Facebook account for 30 days first
