Amazon Prime is a $139/year (or $14.99/month) subscription that bundles free shipping, Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Reading, Prime Gaming, Amazon Photos storage, and Whole Foods discounts. Most people signed up for shipping and stayed for the bundle.

Honest assessment

The shipping benefit is real. If you order frequently, the math often works out. Run the numbers: how much would you spend on shipping without Prime? Many people find they order less once they're paying per shipment — which may be the point.

Click "Manage membership" → "End membership"
Amazon will present 3–4 retention screens. Keep clicking through.
You retain Prime benefits until the end of your current billing period

Alternatives

Walmart+ $98/year — Free delivery on orders $35+, Paramount+ included, Walmart grocery discounts. Closest like-for-like.
Target Circle 360 $99/year — Free same-day delivery, Shipt included. Strong for household + grocery.
Free shipping thresholds — Most major retailers (Best Buy, Chewy, Zappos, Nordstrom) offer free shipping at $25–50. Order strategically.
Local pickup / BOPIS — Buy online, pick up in store. No shipping cost. Often same-day. Works at Target, Best Buy, Home Depot, most pharmacies.

Migration steps

Download your order history report before canceling (Account → Order History → Download Order Reports → select date range → Request Report)
Download all Amazon Photos before canceling (Photos app → select all → Download). You have until end of billing period.
Identify your most-used Prime Video content (see Prime Video page for migration path)
Sign up for Walmart+ or Target Circle 360 if you want a shipping membership replacement
Cancel Prime. Work through the retention screens. Done.
